The Minnesota Hockey Officials Association (MHOA) is proud to announce Paul Kill is the 2020 recipient of the MHOA Service Award.

An extremely well respected official amongst his peers and the coaching community, Kill began his USA Hockey Officiating career in 1995, served as a Minnesota High School Hockey Official from 1998 through 2008 and is still officiating today.

It is well known, in the officiating ranks, if you see the name Paul Kill on your schedule you are going to have a highly qualified official who will always have a smile on his face and a kind word on his lips.

In 1998, Kill attended instructor training in Colorado Springs and started his journey as an officiating educator and mentor. While the four-day training with daily ice time and many hours of classroom instruction is one of the most intense officiating experiences available, it pales in comparison to the 20+ years since then in which Kill has cheerfully volunteered his time each fall to instruct at any seminar he is asked to share his knowledge.

Kill continues to serve as an active mentor for young USA Hockey Officials and can be seen at games evaluating all levels of officials. His thoughtful insight and steady guidance have helped countless officials gain the knowledge and confidence they need to be successful on and off the ice.

When Krissy Langley started the WHAM Officials Association in 2015, she knew it would take a great deal of effort, expertise, and dedicated volunteers to build the program. Langley sought out Kill to assist her in this new project and once again, without hesitation, he stepped up to help and to this day, Kill donates his time to serve on the WHAM Officials Association Board of Directors.

MHOA thanks Kill for being an incredible ambassador for the officiating community for numerous years! It is one thing to be an exceptional official on the ice, but his combination of on-ice officiating along with being a tireless volunteer and mentor who never turns down an opportunity to help in any capacity will be forever appreciated and leave a lasting legacy.

The Minnesota Hockey Officials Association (MHOA) established the MHOA Service Award to honor individuals who have unselfishly made outstanding contributions to the officiating program in Minnesota during many years of service to the hockey community as an official and a volunteer.
