Minnesota Hockey Announces Inaugural World Showdown Tournament During IIHF World Junior Championships
International Youth Hockey Event to Coincide with IIHF World Junior Championships in Minneapolis/St. Paul
ST. PAUL, Minn. (April 7, 2025) – Minnesota Hockey is excited to introduce the inaugural World Showdown, a premier international youth hockey tournament set to take place from December 31, 2025, to January 4, 2026, in conjunction with the IIHF World Junior Championships in Minneapolis and St. Paul.
The World Showdown will welcome elite youth teams from across the United States and around the globe, offering participants a unique opportunity to compete against top-tier talent and experience diverse hockey styles. Each age group will be hosted at different venues throughout the Twin Cities, fostering a cohesive event atmosphere with city-wide activities designed to unite players, families, and fans.
"The World Showdown embodies our commitment to providing young athletes with unparalleled experiences that promote both competition and cultural exchange," said Jacob Mars, World Showdown Event Director. "By aligning this tournament with the IIHF World Junior Championships, we're creating a platform for players to showcase their skills on an international stage while immersing themselves in the rich hockey culture of Minnesota."
The tournament will feature divisions for various age groups, with teams guaranteed seven games throughout the five-day event. Each division will consist of 16 teams playing four pool play games and three bracket games, ensuring a competitive and engaging format. Host sites include prominent arenas such as the National Sports Center Super Rink in Blaine, M Health Fairview Sports Center in Woodbury, and St. Louis Park Rec Center, among others.
